Peaceful Protests across Australia this weekend #evacuatemanus

The men who were forcibly removed from the RPC don’t belong on Manus Island and they don’t want to be there.

Manus Island – its people and their culture, the small communities and inhabitable terrain, the employment situation etc. – can’t cope with an influx of hundreds of men from different parts of the world.

So ALL the people currently on Manus SHOULD NOT have to deal with this situation.
It is NONE of THEIR making.

The Australian government cannot say that:

No one in a democratic society wants to be in a position to accuse their government of lying, of abuse, of criminal activity. But Peter Dutton and Malcolm Turnbull continue to give Australians cause to do so. And there seem to be no repercussions for the frequent intentional deceit of the people that they were elected to serve.

So the only recourse for those people is to speak out.

This weekend, there will be gatherings across Australia where, like the Manus refugees, Australian citizens will sit in solidarity with arms clasped in the air in peaceful protest …

  • To show the men abandoned offshore that we are with them,
  • To show the people of Manus Island that we understand them and
  • To show our government that we expect so much better from them.

If you are able to participate to show what real Australian values are – to demonstrate humanity, to show respect for the truth and international law and at the very least, to indicate our expectation for basic standards of decency and  public responsibility from all Australians, especially those who represent us ALL, please join a peaceful protests in one of the capital cities.

If you aren’t able to attend, you can still speak out…

As long as the Australian government continues with its duplicity, immorality and failure to comply with the law and the basic requirements of the significant responsibility that we have given them, we must continue to tell them that their policies and actions are totally unacceptable.

The refugees on Manus persisted.
So can we.
